Copyright & Preservation Policy
Our Approach to Copyright
Preserving the history of machine knitting is a complex undertaking. Because domestic knitting machines are no longer manufactured, and the vast majority of the magazines, manuals, and pattern books in our archive have been out of print for decades, copyright can often be a bit of a difficult area.
The digital publications hosted on Machine Knitting Central have been collated from resources that were already freely available and circulating on the internet. Because this vital technical knowledge is critically endangered, we operate under the good-faith assumption that the original creators and copyright owners are happy for these historical documents to remain publicly accessible. We believe that sharing this archive is the only way to ensure the craft survives and can be passed on to a new generation of makers.
Notice and Takedown Requests
We have the utmost respect for authors, designers, and intellectual property. If you are the rightful copyright owner of any publication hosted on this website and you would prefer that it is not made publicly available for the benefit of the community, please let us know.
You can simply reach out to us via our Contact Us page with a request for removal, and we will promptly take the files down from the archive.
Moving Forward
As our digital rescue mission continues and we digitise new physical publications from our own collections, we will make every reasonable effort to track down the original copyright owners to seek their explicit permission beforehand (provided they can still be found!).
Our ultimate goal is simply to protect the heritage of machine knitting, and we are incredibly grateful to the creators of the past for the knowledge they have left behind.
